Do you own photoshop? It's super easy to do if you have PS :)

Hi DavidC,
Just refurbishing a room at home and waiting for my large desk, where my large AIO with Photoshop 7 will reside after sitting unused for a year.
Keith Ash has kindly suggested that he could help me with a few lessons in Photoshop.
Time is of a premium though and trying to fit everything in is a huge problem which you will find when your baby comes along! Our two young grandsons among other things keeps us busy.
Anyway, at the DPI competition last week, the judge liked one off my images so much that he gave it a 12. It hadn't seen any photoshopping!
See last image here: http://www.croydoncameraclub.org.uk/Clu ... ition4.htm
Looking forward to your arrival at the CCC.
Off to Mumbai & Goa tomorrow and will come back with a few thousand images to sort out!

You would get more benefit from learning Lightroom initially rather than concentrating on Photoshop. Library allows you to manage your images, which might not seem like an issue if you only have relatively few, but will become more of a problem as you accumulate several thousand over the years. The Develop module provides almost all of the adjustments I require and relatively few of my shots make it into Photoshop these days. The main function of the latter is for monochrome conversion, for which I use Silver Efex Pro 2. If I create a Smart Object, not available in PS7 sadly, it saves the SEP2 settings if I want to make changes later.

Do you not just use SEP2 plugin directly from lightroom?

I could do, but opening it from PS gives me two advantages. The first, to save the SEP2 settings by using a Smart Object layer I have already mentioned. The other is that I am usually experimenting with images to see what they look like and often opt not to take things further. If I invoke SEP2 from LR, it does the Raw conversion and creates a new file which I might not want to retain which means I have some housekeeping subsequently to delete it. If I pass the Raw file to PS for processing, a file is not created unless I specifically choose to save it from within PS.
