Take a Tripod Up The Shard

Amateur Photographer has details of two special photography mornings when photographers will be able to take tripods and other equipment not normally allowed up to the Shard's viewing platforms.

I saw this, for twice the price of a normal ticket I can't recommend it. I went around dusk, used a small camera bag as a makeshift tripod and managed to get blur-free, reflection free stable shots. I timed the trip for just before/after sunset and the place emptied out just as dusk fell making good shots easy to come by.

What annoyed me is I asked for a permit for a tripod before the event and was told no, yet saw a chap with one up there who also had a permit. Really frustrating at the time but, in the end, not really necessary.

Eh? The price is £29-50, which is less than £5 extra over and above the normal advance booking price of £24-95. Given that the light levels should be quite high at that time of the day, it is debatable whether a tripod is actually needed and there are alternatives as you found.

Aha the news outlet I'd read it on initially said the tripod charge was £30 on top of the Shard ticket. Hence the confusion.
