Here We Go Again... One Year In Asia 2014-2015

One month after first moving to Singapore we have flown the nest, leaving our serviced apartment and starting the next stage of life in our new condo. An auspicious sunset before the new day perhaps? Red sky at night...

Here we go again with another 365 project. No rules this time, I just want to keep the quality & interest levels as high as I can.

Hi Dave

I am not sure that I will be joining you this time, but I do wish you you every success in your new 365 project. What better way than to find out about you new locale than to go out photographing it every day? And I like the title for your first shot, very apt. I look forward to seeing the next 364 shots!

I had intended to start the day we landed but it just wasn't practical. This seemed like the next best watershed moment. I've already got some ideas for "projects within a project" I hope to do something with too. I've been finding that I've missed having the background buzz of a project and I'd been less inclined to pick up a camera, just as I'd made the investment in some new kit! I also found it a really big motivator & driver for creativity last year. Just remind me of this when I'm yet again bleating about not having enough time

I also want to continue entering exhibitions and improve the success rate and I won't get that sitting around not taking photos!

Hopefully photos of "sunsets from the roof" won't turn into the "macro photos of flowers/cutlery" that hit my last project

That's pretty much sums up my own thoughts about my own project last year. After it ended, I hardly picked a camera for three or four months yet shooting every day yielded a steady stream of images with which I am pleased, with many doing well in club competitions. I admire your energy in going for another 365 when you have just embarked on moving to a new job and location with all that entails.

Hopefully photos of "sunsets from the roof" won't turn into the "macro photos of flowers/cutlery" that hit my last project

Trying new subjects was a positive in my 365, sometimes producing less than satisfactory shots was not, but I guess that is all part and parcel of such an endeavour. I had hoped to get around the latter with the "Photo a Day" concept, but that has not really worked as well as I had hoped. There is not the same imperative to go out and get the shots without the spur of having to produce something every day. Maybe combining it with something along the lines of Paul's "Photo a Week" concept is the answer. Post a "best of" gallery each week which has to contain at least one image, perhaps?

If past performance is anything to go by, you'll do well. I hardly need to wish you success in your venture.

I had considered doing a 52 week project and I like the idea of doing the "best of" gallery suggestion too. My wife also suggested making sure I had 365 photos by the end of the year provided I produce at least 7 each week - limiting myself to one each and every day could be averted and if I've got a fruitful session I can use more shots in the 365.

I'm even considering the idea where I pluck something from my archives and using my improved PS skills, tweak the photo and try to get more out of older shots.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I will do any/some/all of these this year. This time I've set no rules, only that I want to "produce" a photo every day. Chances are that will be new work I think

At least one of the people I followed on 365Project last year appeared to be doing something along those lines. Your project, your rules. It is not really about the project per se, but finding what motivates you to get the shots.

Considering I've just started again, stumbling across this on the street gave me pause for thought.

Working in what amounts to a business park might make daytime shots either challenging or very boring, unlike Spitalfields where I could pop out and usually find something interesting.

Still, it will push me to look closer at what's going on around me!

Good luck on the new 365, I once again applaud your tenacity in taking a photo a day for a whole year! Im guessing you will be using your spare ideas from before that you never got round to taking?

To some extent yeah, though last year I had a ton of ideas preplanned using/practicing with flash that I don't have this year. Definitely a suck it and see approach this time

That's basically what I did. I had quite afew ideas written down, some of which I did, but mainly I was winging it. I even had one shot which was taken just 22 seconds before midnight.
