Eastbourne Air Show (Airbourne)

Postby Rose » Wed 29 Jul 2015, 23:32

For those who may be interested, Eastbourne Air Show runs for 4 days from Thursday 13 to Sunday 16 August and is FREE.

Details of the show are here: http://www.visiteastbourne.com/airbourn ... edule.aspx

Displays are centred around the pier and most people congregate along the promenade - but the serious photographers all go to Beachy Head 8-) at the far end near the Bomber Command Memorial.

There are free car parks up there but you need to arrive early to get parked and to bag a spot to set up and watch the show. The benefit of being up on Beachy Head is that the planes make low passes especially for the photographers, so you get a unique viewpoint of the planes 8-) 8-)

And you get a different view of the displays down by the beach...

Yes, we're going on Saturday as that's the only day the Vulcan is scheduled to fly - and it will be our last opportunity to see her before she is finally grounded for good :( This is her last season.

Thank you for posting this Rose. I intend to aim to be there especially as it will be one of the last opportunities to see the Vulcan before it goes into the museum at the end of the season.

Regards,

Tom

I might be interested in going, especially as it is one of the last opportunities to see* the Vulcan. This is beginning to sound like an outing ......

* And hear. "Did the earth move for you, darling?" "Yes, the Vulcan was flying overhead." ;)

I've been checking the weather forecast closely all week - the air show was due to start today but all flying was cancelled. The weather is supposed to be improving over the next 48 hours however, and at the moment the forecast looks to be ok for the weekend. We are going to make our final decision tomorrow. We have a back-up plan that will enable us to get one last sight of the Vulcan flying before she retires... either Shoreham on the 22nd or Dunsfold on the 29th.

In the meantime the Red Arrows plus the BBMF Spitfire & Hurricane will fly into Biggin Hill tomorrow. They will be staying over until Sunday, flying in and out each day to display at Eastbourne. Then on Monday a whole bevvy of Spitfires and a few Hurricanes will be arriving, ready for the Battle of Britain event here on Tuesday. Up to 24 of them altogether... :o :) (Although we'll be one short now as it crashed a week ago :( ) We not only have tickets for the event... but I've been given a Media pass by Biggin Hill Airport 8-) and will be getting privileged access not only airside on the day, but also on Monday to wander around with my camera during the preparations :D :D :D

Thanks for the update, Rose. The weather forecast for today and tomorrow at Eastbourne looks encouraging, so hopefully conditions will be OK for flying. What time do you recommend to get to Beachy Head?

Congrats on the mdeia pass for Biggin Hill. Sounds like a good opportunity.

Get to Beachy Head as early as you can in the morning to grab a parking space and a spot to watch the display. It means hanging around for a few hours but it's worth it. I think we got there between 9:30 and 10:00 last year.
